Basel is a city in Switzerland, but Basel III is an international regulatory framework for banks developed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in response to the 2008 financial crisis. In law as of December 7, 2017, Basel III aims to strengthen the regulation, supervision and risk management in banks.
